What’s Martin saying.

Having been among the first dozen of employees at Serefin’s conception in 2021, I have the rare privilege of witnessing the birth of a new company, experience the chaos that comes from the dealings of the day-to-day as we found our bearings, and ultimately contributing to the growth of Serefin into becoming an organization with over 300 employees in multiple fields ranging from Nursing/Social Work, to Software Development, to Call Centre Agents.

My journey with Serefin has been incredibly rewarding and filled with many valuable learning experiences and beautiful memories. Joining as a product designer marked the beginning of my professional career, and to develop myself to being entrusted with the important role of lead designer for Serefin Travel was a true honour.

The travel booking engine project was a significant learning experience for me, marking  several firsts. It was my first time leading a design project from ideation to execution, managing stakeholders by defining priorities and timelines, and my first time working alongside a dynamic team of developers through every step of the implementation.

What made PURL such an interesting project to me was how Greenfield-like the project was from the start  - an opportunity to design a product with no real requirements beyond just a simple mission statement of “How do we better enhance the travel experience in-destination?”

It was an opportunity for me to go the extra mile. I developed my own business rationale, researched data that would support my hypothesis, iteratively design a product with my own unique creative flavour, and learned basic front-end development to be able to translate my vision into a real working prototype.

As a cherry on top, PURL ended up being included as part of our service pitch to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

One of the most enriching aspects of this experience has been the opportunity to collaborate with a team of incredibly talented individuals, and of course so closely with the leadership of my company - a luxury that might not have been afforded to me in other organizations. I have learned so much from my colleagues and peers, whose expertise and insights have greatly contributed to the success of these and many other projects at Serefin.

I am proud of being at Serefin, and as I continue to grow and evolve in my career, I will carry forward the lessons and experiences from my time here, forever grateful for the opportunities and memories that have shaped me into the designer I am today.
